Ethan G. Salwen
I am an independent writer and photographer based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I have been a contributing writer to AfterCapture since it was launched in the beginning of 2006. I author the regular “RAW Processing Solutions” column as well as other features. I also write on a broad range of topics about photography for a number of national publications.
My photography education stated in high school and then picked up speed at Rochester Institute of Technology, where I studied photography for three years. Eager to expand my education in the humanities, I went to study English at New York University. The result: I know about photography, and I know how to write about it.
Photographically, my biggest interest is in documenting the “real people” of Latin America. I license my images directly and also through Lonely Planet Images. I also have a blast photographing weddings in the United States, but the commute from South America makes this tricky!
I make no claims of being some sort of digital imagining expert. Far from it! However, during my time as a board member of the American Society of Picture Professionals, through beta testing for Adobe and through extensive writing about photography, I have come into contact with gobs of real digital photography experts. These gurus, geeks and brainiacs rock, and they have helped me become adept at synthesizing photographic information from a number of sources into a form that is readable for "the rest of us.” This is the critical skill that I bring to AC Metaforum.
As the host of ACMetaforum, I my task as to help moderate the flow of ideas that are both important and interesting to AfterCapture readers. I am just as eager to feature guest postings from readers (you!) as I am to interview and highlight famous photographers.
Serving as the ACMetaforum host is incredibly exciting because AfterCapture’s 50,000 readers have distinct levels of knowledge and distinct differences in business and artistic goals. Yet we are all tied together by our love of photography combind with our specific commitment to exploring and mastering what happens after we capture our images.
I strongly encourage you to contact me directly with comments and questions!
