New 50mm Nikon Prime Lens Celebrates 75 Years of NIKKOR Optics

Nikon (Melville, NY) is celebrating 75 years of optical excellence with the newly engineered AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4 prime lens. Ideally suited for the FX-format D-SLR, the new lens includes an ultra-compact Silent Wave Motor for whisper-quiet operation. It also features a newly developed optical formula that effectively corrects sagittal coma flare and coma aberration. In fact, with the new lens instances of lens flare and chromatic aberration are further suppressed through the use of the company’s exclusive Super Integrated Coatings. The new NIKKOR focuses down to 1.5-feet and its rounded diaphragm opening and nine-blade aperture deliver a more natural appearance to out-of-focus background elements. It is expected to begin shipping in December 2008, with an estimated selling price of $439.95.
