Canon Introduces New EF 70–200mm f/2.8 Lens
Canon U.S.A. (Lake Success, NY, www.usa.canon.com) is marketing the second generation EF 70–200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens. Easily the most popular focal range of Canon’s zoom lenses, the new 70–200mm lens features an enhanced body structure, which provides better durability and strength without a significant increase in weight, and redesigned internal elements, which incorporate a fluorite element and a fifth UD element. Its focusing algorithm now supports distances down to 3.9-feet through the entire zoom range. Also new, the lens’ image stabilization supports shutter speeds up to four steps slower than otherwise possible. The Canon EF 70–200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens is expected to be available in April, however, a price has not been determined.
